Hypnos plays with imagery of control, uncontrollability, complexity and fitting together the various elements of life through extremely skilful juggling. In the hypnotic world of the performance, the performer and the objects move in the intangible liminal spaces of private and public, and control and chaos.

Sakari Männistö is an internationally renowned juggler, who began his circus career already as a teenager. He has performed in over fifty circus pieces around the world and has taught master classes in several prominent circus schools. In his own stage works Männistö challenges the conventional notions of juggling.

Hypnos is much more than a solo performance – it is a complete work of art, where the movement of the performed and the objects become one with the sound, light and visual design. The creative team consists of Männistö’s long-term collaborators Eero Auvinen (light design), Alice Williamson (visual design), Aku Meriläinen (media design) and Arnaud Stephenson (stage design). The newest addition to the collective is composer and sound designer Anna Clock.

In addition to the publicly available performances, Hypnos will be performed six times to 8th graders as part of Art Testers – the largest culture education program in Finland.
